Cardiac rehabilitation is a professionally supervised program to help people recover from heart attacks and/or other heart related interventions such as stenting, angioplasty, bypass surgery, valve repair or replacement. Additionally, Cardiac Rehab utilizes a team of providers to teach the patient about necessary physical and nutritional lifestyle changes a patient must make to restore and maintain good cardiac health. A doctor must refer patients to the program.
The program is a completely individualized plan that includes monitored physical activity, education on reducing risk factors, and dietary education. The patient will also have the benefit of support from each of the providers as well as the patients who are also engaged in the program, creating an informal support group. The program is tailored to each patient’s needs and will vary in length from 2 weeks to 2 months.
