Teddy Bear Clinic
Wednesday, September 20, 2017
12:00 PM - 2:30 PM
This is one of the funnest things we get to do every year. Teachers, kids, volunteers, and hospital staff look forward to this event, and this year is no exception! Star Valley Medical Center will host our community's kindergarten classes at the medical center for a fun and engaging field trip. The purpose of the Teddy Bear Clinic is to 'take the scary' out of a visit to the hospital, whether it be to see a doctor themselves, or to visit a loved one.
Children receive a special 'Teddy Bear Clinic" shirt and bring their favorite stuffed animal to the medical center for this educational feild trip. During their visit, the kids stop at stations that are set up to teach them different things about our hospital. Kids get to see xrays, bandage their teddy bears and take temperatures, learn how to put on a bandage, how to give their teddy bears a shot (no needle!) and visit with the doctor about why they wear masks and gloves. Kids also get to see the importance of good handwashing - using the Glitter Bug system, we can show them what stays on their hands after they wash them. The children will tour an ambulance and visit with the EMS team, and talk with police and see the police cruisers. Finally, the children will receive a snack and board the bus to head back to school, with their memories of doctors and xrays that are no longer so scary.
