Events and Classes

Class & Event Registration

Star Valley Medical Center classes and events are offered to help you stay well and to provide you with the education and support you need to make informed decisions about your health.  Many of the classes are offered at the hospital and are free to the public. Our staff is also very active in local health fairs and community events.  Because we value early detection and prevention, we provide free screenings such as blood sugar and blood pressure at multiple events throughout the year.

CNA Classes

The Nursing Assistant course is designed to follow the Wyoming Department of Health curriculum requirements and is eligible for certification by the Wyoming State Board of Nursing.  Upon  successful completion of this class, you will be able to take the Wyoming CNA Certification Examination, a two part exam  consisting of written multiple choice questions and a practical skill demonstration.  After passing the exam you can apply for your Wyoming CNA License. CNAs work under the direction and supervision of an RN or LPN, and oftentimes the CNA certification is one of the first steps into a nursing program.

This training opportunity is open to interested students ages 16 and older.  Cost for the class is $401 for books and tuition and will be due by the start of class. Additional costs for the State CNA Certification Exam, as well as costs to purchase the necessary uniform, shoes, stethoscope, and watch are not included with the books and tuition.  Immunizations must be up to date prior to clinicals (hands on practice).

SVMC will offer our next CNA class in the spring 2018.

'Stop the Bleed' Class

No matter how rapid the arrival of professional emergency responders, bystanders will always be first on the scene.  A person who is bleeding can die from blood loss within five minutes, therefore it is important to quickly stop the blood loss.  With this in mind, SVMC will offer two 'Stop the Bleed" classes that teach bleeding control basics.  Stop the Bleed is a national awareness campaign and a call to action - those nearest to someone with life threatening injuries are best positioned to provide first care.  This program is intended to encourage bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives.

The first class, on November 8th, will be focused on service agencies such as Law Enforcement, Search & Rescue, etc.  The second class, on November 15, will be offered to any and all community members who are interested. Both classes are free of charge and will run for about 1 1/2 hours.  Class size is limited so sign up quickly.  Sign up for the Stop the Bleed classes here.

There will be engaging guest speakers, great food, and enlightening information all packed into a lunch hour, as well as two locations and dates to accommodate busy schedules.   We hope you will join us for this Breast Cancer Awareness Event.
