Position Title:  Clinical IT Specialist

Supervisor Title:  IT Department Director 


While upholding the Star Valley Medical Center mission, vision and values this key position will assist in the implementation and maintenance of Clinical Information Systems and supplemental support systems.  This individual will assist in educating users of the system and be a liaison between the clinical aspect of the system and the administrative and technical aspect.  Assists in training, standard setting, reporting, forms customization, application maintenance, and updates related to clinical software systems.  Incumbent utilizes clinical knowledge, skills and expertise to assist in implementing and maintaining clinical applications systems that are consistent with professional standards of clinical practice.  Assist in the develop of and compliance with HIPAA standards to maintain the security, privacy, confidentiality, and integrity of health information.  This position is “at will.”

Job Duties

·         Assists in the development of strategies to move SVMC toward and electronic medical record (EMR) and helps implement strategy including implementation.

·         Works closely with departments to develop flow charts and e-forms as required.

·         Works closely within the IT department to coordinate all efforts between the financial, clinical and technical components as new products are introduced.

·         Educates clinicians across the organization about plans for the new information system modules and relevant informatics issues through newsletter articles and meetings.  Demonstrates the benefits of the new systems to clinicians.

·         Available to clinicians to answer questions, concerns and to solicit ideas.

·         Participates in the testing of new releases, updates, and work requests installed.  Works closely with vendors to resolve situations as they occur.

·         Identifies other applications that may help nursing and physicians assimilate information technology into their daily practice (e.g. On-line Medical Textbooks, Medline Literature Searches, Email, remote access, etc…)  Facilitates evidence based research, through utilizing online resources.

·         Participates with committee discussions of EMR.  Act as a “sounding board”  for products (e.g. screen designs and implementation plans), and make recommendations for improvements.

·         Assists IT in clinical and Physician system security settings.

·         Serves as the clinical voice of SVMC in proposing software modifications, enhancements and new features development of all clinical software partners.

·         Attends workshops and education sessions to stay current in clinical applications.

·         Other duties as assigned or needs arise.


Abilities & Skills:    

·         Demonstrated initiative, ability to in a team-oriented environment, and strong professional judgment.

·         Ability to work independently and organize time effectively.

·         Has the ability to work closely with the medical staff and other clinical staff through the use of sound communication skills.

·         Demonstrates computer literacy skills in basic computer technology such as using work processor, database, and spreadsheet and will develop a thorough knowledge of the SVMC information system.

·         Possesses a strong aptitude to fully develop skills in the areas of application support and administration.

·         Possesses the willingness and ability to support a myriad of clinical end users in the full utilization of the appropriate application system.

·         Hours of work may vary including on-call coverage as assigned and needed

·         Constant sitting, typing, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, and reaching throughout the day.  Must be able to lift twenty (20) pounds unassisted on a regular basis, lifting fifty (50) pounds or more on occasion.

Experience & Education:

·    Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

  • Maintains current State of Wyoming Nursing license
  • Experienced with a variety of computers and applications as well as standard office equipment
  • Capability to organize and work under deadlines.  Think quickly with sound judgment to analys and solve problems
