A Urologist manages congenital and acquired conditions of the genitourinary system and contiguous structures including the adrenal gland. These conditions extend from the fetus to the elderly, and may be benign or malignant. A Urologist has comprehensive knowledge of these disorders and the patients in whom they occur. According to the American Urological Association, "urology is a surgical specialty which deals with diseases of the male and female urinary tract and the male reproductive organs."
Urologists may receive additional training and in one of the following subspecialties:
Pediatric Urology - involves all aspects of congenital anomalies, childhood acquired urologic problems and overlapping problems of adolescence.
